Rainn Wilson in Premiere

  • Aug. 19th, 2008 at 6:46 PM
We got an email in the mod account alerting us to this interview with Rainn. He's pretty much amazing, is all I have to say.

Rainn Wilson Rocks Out
The star of the most metal comedy of the summer, 'The Rocker,' chats about being one-armed drummers, Renaissance fair nerds, and down-and-out ninjas.

By Karl Rozemeyer
After almost a decade of playing bit parts in feature films like Galaxy Quest and Sahara, and a reoccurring role in Six Feet Under, Rainn Wilson made a splash as the irrepressible brown nose Dwight Schrute in The Office. Now he's got his own Dwight bobblehead, a cult following, and the lead role in the summer's most metal comedy, The Rocker.
When Robert "Fish" Fishman (Rainn Wilson) is rudely dumped by his band mates as their group Vesuvius is on the brink of heavy metal stardom, he lays down his drummer's sticks and takes one degrading customer service job after another. Twenty years later, little has changed and he is living with his sister and her family in the attic in their suburban Cleveland home. That is, until his nephew's band A.D.D., which has just landed a gig on prom night, needs a drummer. Though Fish's over exuberance gets him booted out after just one practice, the band needs him once they're all grounded from rehearsing together. And when a videotaped practice session, featuring a nude and sweaty Fish, gets uploaded to a viral video website, A.D.D. takes off and Fish gets one last shot at glory in The Rocker.
In this exclusive Premiere.com interview, Wilson recalls his dorky high school years, those endless years of struggling as a stage actor, and why Rick Allen is the greatest drummer, like, ever.

You're in your 40s and have hit your stride as a comedic actor. Fish is a 41-year-old washed-up drummer given a second chance. How much of Rainn is in Fish?
How much Rainn is in Fish? [laughs] Yeah, definitely something I can relate to is Fish finding himself. He gets to live his dream in his 40s and I do too, although it is so different because this was never my dream: to get into acting and be a movie star. I didn't get into acting to be a celebrity.

Rest of the article after the cut. )

So yesterday I was pretty much at work in Puerto Rico from 815A to 745P but I did go out later in the evening but I haven't had time to go to the beach or see many sights except a couple of restaurants and a club.

Anyhow here's a picture of one of the hotel's bars which is outside right before one of the pools

August calendar: Jim's turn

  • Aug. 18th, 2008 at 11:36 AM
Here's an August desktop calendar -- this time based on what Jim has been up to this summer (maybe a little wedding planning?), mostly inspired by fanfic.

All the versions of the calendars (printables and desktops and previous months) are here, on my LJ.

For sale: Fireplace Portrait Poster

  • Aug. 17th, 2008 at 8:34 PM
Mods, please let me know if this isn't allowed, and I'll delete.

I'm posting because I'm looking to unload a Colbert fireplace portrait poster -- I moved and I really have no place to display it anymore. : ( It's in perfect condition, and has always been displayed in a frame (frame not included). I'm asking $8 for it ($5 plus shipping), which is quite a bit less than the Comedy Central website.

If anyone is interested, please e-mail me at radiofreelisa [at] gmail.com. Thanks! : )

New Office Trailer

  • Aug. 17th, 2008 at 2:27 AM
I saw this on NBC while watching the Olympics :D There was another one, with Michael speaking, which was even more hilarious (one line was something like "I don't watch women's volleyball for their bathing suits. I watch them for what's underneath.") -- I can't find it online though :/

But for now, I present to you... DWIGHT SCHRUTE!

As, the Huffington Post says, it is in the The New York Times' Arts & Leisure section today [Sun., Aug. 17].

But it's online, as well:
Article is here. [It's 4 pages].

And in single page [print preview] format, here .

Funny line: "Mr. Stewart has said he is looking forward to the end of the Bush administration 'as a comedian, as a person, as a citizen, as a mammal.' "

Also, anyone one else staying up all through the night to watch Olympic events? Just me? Okay.

Update: NYT's Opinionator [ Comedy of Errors ] looks at/questions the Pew study that says CR and TDS audiences are more news knowledgeable than audiences who watch only "real" cable news.

photos of Ed Helms @ Del Close Marathon

  • Aug. 17th, 2008 at 12:27 AM
Ed Helms performed at the Del Close Marathon in NYC last weekend. It's an epic annual event for improv nerds, produced by the UCB Theatre, which Ed has a longtime association with.

One of the shows he participated in again this year was the Daily Show / Colbert Report Improv Jam, which was pretty damn fantastic. I have 81 photos of this blessed event, many of which include Ed, and can be found here on my Flickr.

Also, for fans of Rob Riggle (who of course was in Booze Cruise), you can see him in that set as well as the sets for MySpace, Satellites, and Respecto Montalban.

My good friend [info]meowhouse also has a few on her site.

Conan and bipolar disorder

  • Aug. 17th, 2008 at 12:12 AM
A few years ago, I remember reading an article where Conan mentions he is bipolar (or manic-depressive, if you will). I did some searching and found it linked here.

"I identify with Lincoln," explains O'Brien, who is red-haired, Harvard-educated and Catholic. "We're both 6 feet 4 inches, we're both manic-depressive, and we're both in charge of a lot of other people's lives."

My question is: does anyone have any further information about this? Are there any other articles that mention it? And I'm also curious whether a physician diagnosed him or if it's more of a self-diagnosis. I'm a bit of a psychology nerd so I find this intriguing.
